Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) refers to all fertility treatments in which eggs or embryos are handled in a lab. This includes IVF, ICSI, IUI, egg donation, embryo donation, sperm donation, and surrogacy. ART is used when natural conception is not possible due to blocked tubes, low sperm count, ovulation disorders, age-related fertility decline, or unexplained infertility.

IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) is a simpler procedure where washed sperm is placed directly into the uterus during ovulation — no egg retrieval involved. It costs ₹8,000–₹15,000 per cycle and has a 15–25% success rate. IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) involves retrieving eggs, fertilising them in a lab, and transferring the embryo — it costs ₹90,000–₹1,50,000 but has a much higher success rate (55–65% under 35). IUI is tried first for mild cases; IVF is recommended when IUI fails or when there are more complex fertility issues.

Many patients achieve pregnancy in their first IVF or IUI cycle. However, 2–3 cycles may be needed, especially for women over 35 or with complex diagnoses. IUI is virtually painless — similar to a cervical smear. IVF involves daily hormone injections for 10–14 days (manageable discomfort), followed by egg retrieval under sedation or light anaesthesia (you will not feel pain during the procedure). After egg retrieval, mild cramping and bloating for 1–2 days is common. Most patients return to normal activities the same or next day.

Aakash Fertility Centre has an 85% success rate per fresh embryo transfer across 3 IVF cycles. Per-cycle IVF success rates are: 55–65% for women under 35; 45–55% for women aged 35–37; 35–45% for women aged 38–40; 20–35% for women aged 41–43. Donor egg IVF success rates are 70–80% regardless of the recipient's age.

ART is recommended for: women with blocked or absent fallopian tubes; women with PCOS who do not respond to ovulation induction; men with very low or zero sperm count; couples with unexplained infertility after 12 months of trying; women with endometriosis; women above 35 who have been trying for 6+ months; carriers of genetic disorders who want PGT screening; single women and same-sex couples using donor sperm or eggs.

One complete IVF cycle at Aakash takes approximately 4–6 weeks from the first consultation to pregnancy test. The stimulation phase (hormone injections) lasts 10–14 days. Egg retrieval and fertilisation happen on day 14–16. Embryo transfer occurs on day 18–21. The pregnancy blood test (beta-HCG) is done 14 days after transfer. International patients can complete the full cycle in one visit.

Yes, transferring more than one embryo increases the chance of twins or triplets. At Aakash, we follow international best practice of single embryo transfer (SET) wherever possible — especially for younger patients with good-quality embryos. This reduces multiple pregnancy risks while maintaining high success rates. The decision is made jointly with you based on your specific clinical picture.
