What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape or resize the labia (the folds of skin around the vaginal opening). It can:
- Reduce the size of the labia minora (inner lips)
- Enhance or reconstruct the labia majora (outer lips)
- Improve comfort, function, or appearance
Everyone’s labia are unique, there’s no “normal” look.
Why Do Women Choose It?
- Medical/Physical: Discomfort from enlarged tissue during exercise, sex, or daily activities; hygiene concerns; recurrent infections.
- Cosmetic/Emotional: Correct uneven (asymmetrical) labia, boost confidence, or improve appearance.
- Reconstructive: After injury, surgery, or as part of gender-affirming surgery.
How the Surgery is Done
- Reduction (Trim or Wedge method): Removes excess tissue for a more balanced shape.
- Enlargement: Fat or filler is injected into the labia majora.
- Reconstruction: Tissue may be reshaped or created using existing tissue
The surgery usually takes 1–2 hours and is done as an outpatient procedure. Stitches are dissolvable.
