Diagnostic Laparoscopy
Hope Healing Happiness
in Fertility Care
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a type of fertility treatment where specially prepared sperm is placed directly into a woman’s uterus using a thin catheter.
Diagnostic Laparoscopy
What is Diagnostic Laparoscopy ?
A look-and-see procedure that allows doctors to directly view pelvic structures in real time.
It gives a clearer and more accurate picture than ultrasound or MRI, especially for conditions like endometriosis or scar tissue, which are often invisible on scans.
When It is Considered ?
Doctors recommend diagnostic laparoscopy when:
- A woman has unexplained infertility after routine tests (bloodwork, semen analysis, HSG, ultrasound).
- There is pelvic pain that may suggest endometriosis or adhesions.
- Blockages in the fallopian tubes are suspected.
- Other imaging methods show inconclusive or suspicious findings.
- There’s a history of pelvic infections or previous surgery, which may cause scarring.
Step Process
Process of Diagnostic Laparoscopy
Step 1 :
- Anesthesia → General anesthesia is given so the patient is asleep and pain-free.
Step 2 :
- Small incision → A cut is made near the belly button.
Step 3 :
- Gas inflation → Carbon dioxide gas fills the abdomen, creating space to see organs clearly.
Step 4 :
- Scope insertion → The laparoscope (a small camera with light) is inserted.
Step 5 :
- Exploration → The surgeon inspects the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and pelvic cavity.
Step 6 :
- Tests → Dye (chromopertubation) may be introduced into the uterus to check if the fallopian tubes are open.
Step 7 :
- Biopsy (optional) → Small tissue samples may be taken for testing.
What it Can Detect ?
- Endometriosis (tiny spots or large lesions)
- Ovarian cysts (benign or complex)
- Pelvic adhesions (bands of scar tissue)
- Fibroids (growths on or in the uterus)
- Tubal blockages (a major infertility cause)
- Hidden infections, inflammation, or ectopic pregnancy
Results and Benefits
- Clarity : Provides a clear cause of infertility when other tests fail.
- Precision : Detects conditions invisible on scans.
- Next Steps : Helps doctors design the most effective treatment plan.
